How to Turn Stained Glass Patterns into Mosaic Patterns

 

Even if you can find patterns especially designed for mosaics there are other patterns that you can use for mosaics too. For example you can adapt any glass patterns for mosaic.

 

 

The only thing that makes a difference between mosaic and stained glass patterns is the space between each piece and the dimension of the pieces.

Usually, mosaics are designed for outdoor use. Because of the temperature fluctuation, there's a risk of cracking regarding the larger glass pieces. To prevent this from happening you must be careful when cementing the glass pieces. There mustn't be any air bubbles beneath the glass pieces. An easier method to prevent cracking is by using small glass pieces. Small glass pieces are recommended to avoid cracks.

 

A very important aspect is the spacing between the glass pieces. There space between any two pieces shouldn't be bigger then 0.25 of an inch.

When you want to adapt a stained glass pattern for a mosaic the first thing you need to do is to resize it to fit the mosaic mold. The next step is to cut each piece 1/8 smaller. This way you will get a ¼ inch spacing which is exactly what you need. If you like your mosaic to have a classic stained glass aspect you should cut each piece 1/16 smaller. As a result the spacing between pieces will be uniform.

 

If you're pattern's pieces are too large you have to cut them 1/16 smaller and then cut each piece into smaller pieces. The spacing must be 1/32 inchese between any 2 pieces. Using such a small spacing between peaces you will obtain a durable design that will not crack very easy.

 

Another way how you can adapt a stained glass art pattern for a mosaic is to resize the pattern. If you utilize a clear mold, use Vaseline to wipe it then place a contact paper on the bottom of it. Place the paper with the adhesive side up. After that you can position the pattern beneath the mold. Using a glass fastener cut small glass pieces to fit the empty spaces within you pattern. Don't forget to place each glass piece upside down, because when you will take out the mosaic out of the mold ,sides will reverse. After you've placed the glass pieces on the adhesive paper make sure to press the glass to get a proper adhesion.

 

If the mold you're using is not a clear one then you must place the adhesive paper on the top, also side up. Repeat the same steps as if you're using mold paper until you've placed the glass pieces on the adhesive paper. In the end, cautiously put the adhesive paper and the glass on the mold.

Glass Mosaic Tile: How to Make Your Signature Last

Creating glass mosaic tile is not a hard thing to do. Here’s what you need to know.

Are you willing to find out how to sign your indoor mosaic so that the signature to last?

Finding something to last seems pretty hard. Not even permanent markers, acrylic or enamel paint won’t work.

 

Until a while ago I used to sign my glass mosaic floors with enamel paint covered with a light layer of acrylic sealer. This method seemed to work for a wile but this is not even close to my new idea’s performances.

 

Not too long ago a great idea came into my mind and I started to use this method to sign my glass mosaic ever since. This idea is great for indoor glass mosaic but don’t use it for outdoor mosaics or mosaics that are placed in wet locations such as a shower area.

 

Be careful to test this method on a piece of glass before using it to your mosaic. This way you will find out if this is what you were looking for and you can decide if you like the way it looks. Furthermore you can consider this test as a practice.

 

Use a permanent marker to sign on the glass. Write your name anywhere you like. You can look for a piece of tessera where your signature will fit.

Put your mosaic on a plane surface so that the glue won’t leak. If the surface is plane the glue will stay where you’ve applied it. Apply the White Elmer’s Glue on your signature but be careful to pour enough glue to cover the signature.

 

Let the glue dry until the next morning. During this time the ink won’t blur or absorb the ink and your signature will look great when the glue is completely dry. The glue doesn’t affect the ink color either. Your signature will last for a very long time if you apply the White Elmer’s Glue.

 

Don’t try to spread the glue using a mop or anything similar. If you’ll try to do that you risk blurring the ink and ruining the signature. Just leave it alone and it will not blur or absorb the ink. So trying to flatten the glue is not recommended. Instead you can hold the glue bottle very close to the glass and slowly squeeze the glue. The edges might not be perfectly straight but I don’t think that’s a big problem. It’s very hard to notice these small imperfections so you shouldn’t be worried.

 

Don’t forget the above mentioned advice! Never use this method outdoors or on whet locations.
