Do you encounter problems when it comes to cutting stained glass? Well, you should know that there are some techniques that can make stained glass cutting seem a little easier even without a glass saw.
It is recommended to cut the stained glass and grind the glass immediately after scoring.
Thin Strips: Pulling apart a strip that’s scored at an inch from the edge of the glass is very hard to accomplish with bare hands. So, you must use pliers. Align the pliers head on the score line and then squeeze. The scored strip will easily break apart.
Straight Lines: If you want to cut a straight line from a larger piece you have to align the score with a table’s margin. Hold one side on the table and use your other hand to break apart the other glass piece.
Small Square: To cut a glass square you have to measure its width using an edge and then perform the score line. Break apart the strip using running or breaking pliers. After you’ve cut the strip measure and score transversely a similar amount like the one measured the first time. Break apart the strip and you got a stained glass strip.
Curves: If your must score clear glass you can put your glass over the pattern. Make sure you’re glass piece is 0.5 inch bigger than the piece you want to cut. Score inside you’re patterns charcoal line then score a few deviate creases from the edge on the glass to the pattern line. Don’t try to cut large glass pieces because the glass will break.
Circles: The circle cutting procedure is similar to the curves cutting method. You have to score the circle inside the pattern line and then score a few deviate creases. Break apart small glass pieces.
Concave Curves: These curves are pretty difficult to break apart. Again, you must score inside your patterns charcoal line. Then add a few similar cuts until you reach the vicinity of the curve’s highest end. Use a pencil cutter to tap into the scores. Then, break apart one piece at a time from the edge, in.
V-cuts: W-cuts are extremely hard to perform without a very good saw for cutting glass. Else your v-cut won’t have the right shape and you would have to redesign.
Don’t loose your enthusiasm even if your glass cutting doesn’t work as it should. Glass has this tendency to break across.
