Making the perfect stained glass for your window requires very good stained glass materials or kits else you won’t get the desired results. If you’re not an expert in stained glass here’s a list of what you need to get started.

 

 

The tools that you need are: drawing gear, layout equipment, a work board, glass pattern clippers, glass pliers, broom, safety glasses and off course a glass cutter. Here are the materials you must acquire: carbon and pattern paper, glass cleaner, copper tape fuse, applicator brush, glaze, solder and stained glass. Be careful to choose a pattern that meets your requirements.

 

Some people probably haven’t heard about some of these materials until now but this is normal for a beginner. These supplies are very important in creating a quality strained glass. You could find some of these supplies to a craft shop. To make sure you know what you’re looking for here are their purpose and description.

Supplies:

 

1. Safety glasses: their purpose is to keep you away from any eyes injuries.
2. Drawing gear: t he drawing gear includes tools like pencils, rubber, ruler, and drawing paper.
3. Whisk Broom: helps you to remove the small parts of glass from your worktable.
4. Work board: this is the place where you will cut the glass and where you will design your projects. This is usually made of wood.
5. Glass Marking Pens: This is a black marker used to draw the pattern on the glass. If the glass has a dark color you can use a white pen.
6. Glass Pattern Clippers: Helps removing the unnecessary pieces of paper when cutting the pattern.
7. Glass Pliers: It has a curved and a plane jar that meet top. Whit it you can hold the glass safely while scoring.
8. Glass Cutter: This is the tool you use to cut your glass according to the pattern. Since you will use it a lot it is very important to be a quality tool.

 

Materials:

 

1. Solder: this is a kind of metal that melts on low temperatures and ties up one metal to another one.
2. Applicator Brush: helps you deoxidize the copper tape. Be careful when you use it because it is a very dangerous substance.
3. Copper Tape: this is a copper sheet with a sticky side.
4. Pattern Paper: Helps you find the best pattern for scoring your glass.
5. Glass Cleaner: It is used for cleaning the glass. A smooth rag is recommended to avoid scratching the glass.
6. Clear Glass: Very easy to score and cut. Can be found in two widths.

Because creating stained glass may be addictive it would be a good thing to buy some extra supplies, just in case. Always be careful when working with broken glass.

 

Keeping an ashcan nearby will help you get rid of all those small glass pieces easier.
